Portrætfilmen om Prins Nikolai er optaget over ti år – fra begyndelsen af det nye årtusinde, hvor Prins Nikolai er blot et halvt år gammel og frem til hans ti års fødselsdag den 28. august 2009. Filmens omdrejningspunkt tager udgangspunkt i det samme lokale, ved det samme bord og foran samme baggrund men med et halvt års mellemrum. Det giver et billede af den udvikling prinsen gennemgår, fra han sidder med sine forældre og leger med klodser og frem til den meget bevidste tiårige prins, som forholder sig til sin hverdag og verden.

This portrait of Prince Nikolai of Denmark was recorded throughout a ten year period – from the beginning of the new millennium, where Prince Nikolai is only six months old, and up to his tenth birthday on August 28th 2009. The film is built around a conversation with the Prince every six months in the same room, at the same table and with the same background. That underlines the development the Prince undergoes – from the time he sits with his parents and plays with toy bricks till the very conscious ten-year-old Prince who relates to his everyday life and the world in generel.
